I stayed six nights at Wilmington's downtown Doubletree on a group negotiated rate. I'm also a member of the Hilton HHonors program. At the front desk, I was treated as the later, not the former. I point this out because it is not always the case. My room fell within the parameters of all my ""personal requests"" made on the HHonors site and within seconds of walking into the room my HHonors extras (extra coffee, extra pillows) were delivered by a very friendly member of the housekeeping staff. The free internet service was easy to access (I used the wired access & set up my own wireless network) though on the Saturday of my stay, the network was down more than it was up. Service at the bar the two nights I used it was good and the pours ranged from reasonable to generous, depending on the bartender. Room service, which I used mainly for breakfast, was very friendly and very prompt. I only had trouble one morning when they just didn't pick up the phone. I'm pretty sure that was an issue of short-staffing and not the fault of the staff itself. The quality of the food ranged between 6 and 8 on a 1-10 scale. The value for money was about average for this level of property. The 24-hour workout room is small but nice and certainly met my needs, which are entirely cardiovascular. The pool (open 6-10) is big and nicely heated, though the area surrounding it is definitely the most worn of all the areas in the hotel. The desk staff were friendly and prompt in getting me a taxi and handling my checkout. All in all, a good stay.

Very friendly staff and they give you these great cookies when you sign in. Rooms are clean and fresh smelling. I wish I could take the bed home with me. They have a buffet breakfast bar in the restaurant, real nice staff, they take very good care of you and the food selection was very good and the presentation was nice. Beautiful hotel, can't wait to go back again.

We only stayed for 2 days, however, it was more than enough time for the unpleasant experiences we faced. I think it's totally worth it to spend an extra money to stay a few blocks away. Here are the main reasons why: 1) The garage where you park is quite spacious, but it does not feel safe. you can't walk around without feeling the need to hurry towards the door and get back into the hotel. we drove back to the hotel around midnight on both nights. 2) The location does not make you feel safe either. Even though it's just a few blocks away from the nicer part of town (nearby the Sheraton Suites), it's a world of difference. I would definitely not walk around the block at night. It's kind of deserted. 3) Our room was never cleaned, nor the bathroom replenshied with towels and shampoo/soap.

We stayed at the Doubletree for two nights but we would never stay here again nor recommend others to. 1) The location is not safe at all. Even though it's only a few blocks away from the newly renovated portion of downtown Wilmington, it is not the kind of area where you want to be walking after daylight. (Even in daylight, I may not feel safe). My other friends were staying at another hotel a few blocks away and it feels like a world of difference with paved red brick sidewalk and a pleasant ambiance. 2) The garage is also not safe since it's not gated and it?s open to the public. Anyone can come into the garage space. We came back around midnight on both nights. As you?re parking, you want to find the closet parking spot and when you come out of the car, you feel like you need to hurry into the hotel to be safe, not lingering around. 3) Our room was never cleaned during our entire stay. The towels weren't replaced, and they didn't give extras (only 2). Overall, the place just feels filthy with a distinct smell. There could be one reason why it wasn?t cleaned. On the first morning, as we were leaving our hotel room, the cleaning lady stopped us and asked if everything was okay. ""are you okay?"" to be exact. We thought she was just being friendly and saying hello. Thinking back, she probably meant ""are you okay (that I don't clean your room)?"" It was probably a miscommunication, yet regardless, it's a very unprofessional manner of handling the situation. It shouldn't hurt to at least come in to check if everything was okay or be more explicit in her question to us.

  • Great Place for a Wedding Reception

Our daughter went to the University of Delaware and never left the state. She wanted a wedding where she lived and worked to make it easier for all her friends to attend. Coming from Westchester County, NY we were nervous not knowing the hotel nor the area very well. Well, we had people come from all over: NY, California, Florida, Colorado, PA, CT etc. Everyone had a wonderful time. The reception was fabulous. Steven English and his crew did a spectacular job. The ballroom was decorated better than if Preston Bailey did it himself. The food was abundant and delicious. The brunch the following day was outstanding. The service was excellent. The staff catered to everyone and made us all feel at home. Steven promised us a NEW YORK wedding at Delaware prices and he delivered. We had 230 guests of all ages at the wedding and there was not one complaint. Some of us plan to go back in the fall and tour the Brandywine Valley. I give the Doubletree, x English and the staff a rating of EXCELLENT!
